Happy Endings

Pebbles

Pebbles This is a picture of Pebbles, our Westie/Yorkshire Terrier cross.

My wife and I adopted her in July 2004 from "The Hull Animal Welfare Trust" after losing our collie cross Skipper who sadly died the same year aged 16years.

We do not know her full history only that she was bullied by other dogs. When we got her she would not eat and was very nervous of other people but after plenty of T.L.C she is now a very happy and confident little dog. She is still wary of strangers until she gets to know them, then she is their friend for life.

Pebbles goes with us on holiday and loves it especially the walkies. She has never stayed in kennels nor will she do so.

Our little friend is very affectionate and gives us plenty of love and is a real character and makes us laugh every day.

We would urge anyone who is thinking of having a dog to adopt rescue dog they really appreciate a loving home.

Thank You to "Hull Animal welfare Trust" for Pebbles.

The Roc

The Roc Hi H A W

Do you remember Rocky? now 'The Roc'

I did say after a couple of weeks he was a sensational animal, well it's got even better than that. His tracking skills are brilliant, him and I go to the local park 6am each day. Sometimes he gets twice a day. His lead skills are great, his off lead skills are great, his behaviour with other dogs is superb unless they try to take his ball.

He has turned out more like a friend than a dog. Can't get past 5.30 without him coming up the stair into the bedroom licks my face for getting up. This does not worry me I love rising early winter or summer. My wife comes along every two days to brush him . I can say he is looking after us very well.

He jumps into his travel cage in the car, no problem, travels well. There is one thing both my wife and love about him. He comes to either of us when he needs to relieve himself, no fuss just pulls gently our arm. He adjusted to our home as if he had been with us for years. Gives gentle barks when some one approaches the house, not nasty, just warning some one is coming. I can not praise this lad enough. Yes you can definitely put him in your Happy Endings page.

Another up date in six months.

Bye for now.

Milo and Mitzi

Milo and Mitzi Hi it's me little Milo, well I'm not so little now, as you can see I've grown a lot bigger than Mitzi and I've still got my big ears, my mum says I'm unique and wouldn't want me any other way.

I've got a great life with Mitzi we've both been very lucky coming to live with Julie Stuart and Paul. We have weekends away in the motor home and we have a great time just doing as we like.

Even though I'm quite heavy in weight I still lay on my mum's knee and I lay on my back like a baby and go to sleep.

A note from mum now - Mitzi and Milo are both adorable I'm so glad we picked them both from the sanctuary. They have brought so much happiness into the home. More work for me but I don't care I wouldn't be without them.

Thank you Sunnydene for being there, we would never have found these two characters without you.

Kelsi

Kelsi Hello.

I came to you briefly in February 2009 and you knew me as Daisy, my new family has called me Kelsi after a character from the High School Musical films.

My family had recently lost their previous dog through illness because on odd occasions I get called Pippin and everyone looks sad. Also in the house is an old female cat called Lucky who was very close to Pippin. We have an understanding - I understand that she is the boss. My Mum calls me a little hand grenade because of the effect I have had on the house and because I move her ornaments. Dad often mentions the marks my nose has made on the windows of his car and that the garden has more craters than the moon and mutters something about Ebay. Oddly enough since I have moved in a lot of things have moved to higher shelves, but I don't know why.

I have been given lots of toys to play with but they are not as much fun as taking laundry from the washing basket or Mum's slippers, oh what fun it is to be chased around the garden.

Since I left you I have been on a day trip to Whitby, on holiday in Devon where I went down a copper mine on a train, I have been on a pleasure cruise around Scarborough to get my sea legs and regularly go to watch Scarborough rugby team.

Everyone is getting excited because we are all going to Wales in August, you get the picture that I go wherever my family goes and I have been assured that I will never be put into a kennel. When I am in the car I lay down on a pillow which is on my Mum's lap and often go to sleep, unless there are sheep or other animals to see and then I put my nose against the car window.

My favourite walk is along Scarborough sea front where there are lots of sea smells and other dogs and I have some of Dad's ice cream. When the sun is out we often have a BBQ in our garden which means I get my own steak!

I am sending you a picture of myself on one of my many day trips, this time sunning myself at Duncombe Park Steam Fair. My family wanted to take a picture of me in the garden but apparently I am never still long enough - well there are so many sparrows and blackbirds to chase!

A brief note from Kelsi's new family: Thank you ever so much for letting us have Kelsi as she made the loss of our beloved Pippin so much easier with the love and affection she gives us.

Kind regards

David, Trish, Laura and Rachel

Shannon

Shannon When Shannon came to us she had already had three homes we knew of. Being quite suspicious of new people and new dogs she isn't a dog that settles too easily.

We got to know her whilst she was at Sunnydene and by the time we brought her home she was trusting of us.

There was still another hurdle - she had to meet our other three dogs, dogs she had to get on with.

She arrived 10th March 2009 and although we have had a few problems Shannon is now settled and happy.

She has turned into the 'live wire' of the pack, never still, always curious, inquisitive and mischievous. She has settled into our routine and regularly meets her dog friends in the park.

She has retained her 'killer instinct' when it comes to things much smaller than herself. Birds are not allowed to land in the garden and she is ever vigilant, constantly patrolling for any of these feathered intruders, windows covered in marks as she throws herself at flies that dare to come in through the open kitchen door.

I believe Shannon is happy to be with us, her tail rarely stops wagging and we are so pleased to have her. She keeps us on our toes.

The photo shows Shannon guarding the aviary against mice.

Cindy

Cindy This is Cindy who has just celebrated her second ‘Happy Ending’

In 2000, when Cindy came to the kennels as a three-month-old pup, she was re homed by a couple living locally.

Unfortunately, about two months ago, Cindy had to be returned to the kennels since her owners, through incapacity and ill health, were unable to cope.

Happily one of our volunteers was looking for such a dog as Cindy and at first glance knew that she was the one.

Cindy now resides in Willerby and is already an established member of the family. She particularly enjoys long walks and playing ball. She has a long garden to play in and we are reliably informed that in chasing and recovering a ball she touches speeds of approaching 100 m.p.h.

N.B. Editor’s note – this latter information is given in good faith but has not been verified.

Long may Cindy’s second Happy Ending last.
