Happy Endings

Bertie and Molly

Bertie and Molly Bertie was chosen by Tracey and Dave in August 2006. He was an unclaimed stray from the Gilberdyke area. Bertie settled well and the couple decided to take a second dog. Our little Polly soon caught their eye and in May 2008 the two dogs were introduced. The two dogs got on well have great fun together and Polly was re named Molly

Tracey tells us that they are really good in the car and love runs on the beach and by the river. At bedtime Dave and Tracey have to get to their bed before Bertie and Molly as they dive onto the pillow and love to sleep on their heads. Their favourite game is tug-o-war with the raggy rope.

Buddy and Tinker

Buddy and Tinker Dickens and Ava, both very large dogs, cross German Shepherds, had been with us some time when Lorraine and Carl arrived at the centre. They fell in love with both dogs and to our surprise took both home with them!

They were re named Buddy and Tinker and now live in a village in East Yorkshire not too far away from the coast. Lorraine and Carl tell us that Buddy has really come out of his shell, he plays a lot but loves a life of luxury. Tinker is the naughty one, she is always in the pond and follows Carl about like a shadow. Both dogs eat and sleep together and know where the chews are kept, letting Carl know when they want one. They often go to the beach and even when the sea is rough they love to lay down in it. Buddy and Tinker are so close you would not believe it.

Molly

Molly Molly arrived at the centre with mum and siblings after they were found abandoned in a phone box (is this one of Tipsey's kittens?). We called her Terri.

In February 2008 Jo and Dan who live in the West Riding saw her and knew immediately this was the kitten for them.

Jo says 'meet Molly our little tortoise-shell beauty or as we know her - Piddy - because she was so tiny when we got her. We were in need of a friend for our other cat - Ivy - after we lost Bogle. Molly loves nothing more than finding every warm spot in the house including under the duvet. She sleeps in our bed every night and wakes you with a morning cuddle. She is growing up fast so she has a number of daily chores consisting of terrorising all the plants, climbing the curtains and choosing what to eat that day as she is hard to please. I still don't think Ivy knows what's hit her because Molly is a big ball of energy and chases Ivy all over the house, their favourite game is hide and seek. They are two happy cats.

Butch and Stella

Butch and Stella Ezra was one of our dogs that stayed with us longer than most but once spotted by Rachael and David they couldn't resist his comical ways. They took him home and re named him Butch. That was back in July 2007.

Rachael and David say 'We couldn't believe how quickly he settled in and by the end of the night he was hogging the whole sofa. We took him on holiday that year to Devon and he loved all the walking and sightseeing ...he was in his element. We must have tired him out during the day because every night he woke us up snoring. After we got back we decided to take him to some training classes to improve his basic skills. We went for six months and it helped enormously. In February 2008 we decided to start looking for another dog so Butch would have a playmate. We came to the rescue centre and found Stella (was called Lucinda then) and she just laid down letting everyone stroke her and we knew she was the one. It was hard at first getting her settled in with Butch and toilet trained we even brought her back to the centre but was so upset we took her back home. This was the best decision we could have made because now they are the best of friends. It can be hard at times (specially with two hyperactive staffies) but it's so rewarding especially knowing you've given a dog a home that otherwise might not have made it. If we had the room we would carry on adopting. Thank you to everyone at Hull Animal Welfare Trust.

Cole

Cole We knew Cole as Rocky and he was adopted by David, Vanessa and their daughter in October 2007. He lived in Hull then but has now moved to Brough.

Vanessa and David tell us 'We are settling in to our new home in Brough and Cole has settled in already. He is already a menace to the local cats!!!

There are many more nice walks to take Cole on - he especially likes meeting other dogs (even though he tends to bark a bit!!). Both Cole and our 18 month old daughter are running rings round both of us. He is happiest when his toy is being thrown for him to chase, but when he's tired he still likes to jump up on the sofa and have a cuddle.'

Patch and Ben

Patch and Ben In April 2007 two male dogs were abandoned outside the PDSA, they had been tied to a post. Both dogs, at best, middle aged at 13 and 9 years old. They came to the centre quiet and subdued obviously devoted to each other, so much so, we decided to try and re home them together. We knew this was a tall order especially given their ages.

Two months later Joy and Graham from Brough who already had one of our dogs saw them and decided the pair needed a second chance.

Patch took a while to settle especially getting use to the cat. Although not nasty he loved to chase and had an unnatural fascination with her. It took Joy and Graham patience and time to be able to trust him. They re educated him, always on a lead at first, slowly introducing the pair, letting them sit closer as they grew use to each others company. A sharp reprimand if needed. Over time they grew to trust him but now, unfortunately, he has transferred his fascination to rabbits!

Ben settled immediately and has a wonderful temperament with everything and everybody, he is a serious steady dog, Patch plays with toys and Ben gets upset with him, he does not like them and he expects Patch to be the same.

In all this Danny, the first dog, a small dachshund cross, accepted everything but at the same time made it clear he was the boss! Both Patch and Ben both accept him as the head of the household and never give him a moments bother.
