Ernie
Victor came to HAW after he was found on his own in Hull City Centre. We don't know how he got there and no one has ever come forward to claim him.
He was chosen by Kath and her son Graham who sent us a lovely card with the newly named Ernie on the front :
Thank you so much for Ernie, as you can see I've changed his name from Victor. He is a pleasure to have, the way he has settled in it's as though he's been here all his life. All my family love him. He loves to play ball a lot, he's fantastic with the grand children but he doesn't like being outside in the dark. He is spoilt rotten and he's certainly put a smile back on my face also my son's.
Thank you again
Kath

Libby and Maisie
In December 2001 we adopted Stella a three year old cross Lab from HAWT, we renamed her Libby.
She was very nervous for quite a while and although over the years she became a little braver she remained quiet and gentle. We had nearly eight years of love and loyalty from Libby and have such warm memories of countryside holidays, walks in the park and visits to the coast.
After being a very healthy dog, a visit to the vets revealed that she had a mammary tumours and our sweet Lib had to have several operations. Her recovery was good and we had a couple more years of fun times and long walks with her.
Unfortunately, earlier this year we found the tumours had returned but had spread extensively and couldn't be removed, she tried so hard to enjoy her normal life but soon became unable to manage even a short walk. Sadly we had to say goodbye to her, it was the most heart breaking situation for us but we knew it was the right decision for her, there was no way we could let her suffer.
We always knew we would get another dog and at the beginning of August we saw Maisie on the HAWT website. We agreed to keep an open mind as it was very soon after loosing Libby. She turned out to be exactly what we needed and we like to think we are exactly what she needed! She is a fourteen month old schnauzer and wasn't getting on with the other dog at her previous home. We fell in love with her immediately and brought her home that day.
In the few weeks we have had her she has settled in amazingly and has even been on her first holiday with us to the Lake district! She is a totally different character to Libby which is keeping us on our toes..Libby never pinched clothes out of the washing machine or chewed pegs or ran crazily in circles around the garden. Generally she is a real gem, already house trained and so cute. Her mischief is more comical than naughty and she is happy to let you groom her teddy bear fur (which doesn't moult..a real bonus!). She needs plenty of exercise which suits us down to the ground.
Libby was a special dog who we always felt so lucky to have and we will never forget her, we can't believe that we seem to have found another "perfect" dog to share our family life with and we treasure her every day.
HAWT do such a fab job and the staff are so friendly and helpful we are lucky to have such a charity in our area. Thanks.

Tango
In October 2008 a stray young ginger cat was hanging around, very timid, worried about bonfire night approaching I made attempts to trace the owner but no luck. I looked after Tango for three months until your new cattery was up and running.
Volunteer, Elaine, took him to the centre as someone wanted to adopt a ginger cat. My heart sank. He had gained in confidence and followed me around like a dog, we did not want to let him go but being a multi cat household we thought he would get more attention if he was on his own.
I looked at the website every week and six months later I noticed :
‘Sam - ginger cat re homed from our cattery returned for catching birds!’ I knew it was the Tango.
The photos we took of him came out, the M on his forehead the light marks above his nose made me think it was him, maybe if he had been black I would not have recognised him. I contacted the centre and the injection records were the same dates as I had on my calendar when I took him to be injected, it was him. The divorce papers where going to come out again I was sure when I told my husband Tango’s coming back.
He is back here now he has befriended Ginger a laid back five-year-old cat. They run up the willow trees together, he is a very happy cat, he runs for the joy of it, thanks to the h.a.w.t. for taking him back, as I would have not have found him again.
He is not catching birds now he has gone over to mice. I hope he lives as long as my twenty one year old cat Grace.

Archie and Winston
Winston and Archie These two brothers, chocolate Labrador puppies, came to the Trust as 'unwanted' in January 2009. They were adopted by Sarah and her family who contacted us to let us know how things were progressing:
I would just like to let you know how Winston and Archie are getting on.
We adopted them at the end of January 2009 after being told they were kept outside as they were not wanted in the house.
Their personalities are now shining through. Archie who is the sensible one but often raids the bin, is learning to trust us but is still bossed about by Winston who behaves like a looney puppy!
They have been to the beach several times and love to swim and drink the sea water! They have daily runs on the golf course and to see the freedom in their eyes is fantastic. I really cannot understand how anyone could not want these gorgeous dogs. They are the most loving dogs I have ever known, they will do anything to please us (although they can be naughty too!)
I suppose their loss is my family's gain. After losing my dog to old age October 2008 I thought I could never invite another dog into my family but Winston and Archie have given me and my family so much pleasure in the time they have lived with us.
September 2009 - Sarah has contacted us again, Archie and Winston have been on holiday, they all spent two weeks camping around Yorkshire. Archie loves swimming and everyone had a bril time.

Maddy
Hello There
I just thought I would drop you a line to let you know how Maddy has been getting on since she came to us on permanent foster in November 2008 at six years old.
When I first saw Maddy she needed a good bath and seemed old and tired but you could tell she was affectionate. Maddy came home with us and started with a terrible cold, she immediately grew fond of a blue arm chair in our dining room which I was going to throw away.... after she fell asleep in it with the cold I did have to throw it away! When Maddy got over the cold she went to the vets and had most of her teeth removed as the majority had rotted, she also had a lump removed from her shoulder and was spayed.
Maddy has fully recovered and is a new dog! She really enjoys walks, other dogs and people...she is really curious and very nosy! We have taken her on a couple of cottage holidays and she loves to travel with us and spend time with us.
Maddy is a very loving dog..... even when we go to sleep she sometimes insists on joining us on the bed, not been a very small dog you certainly know she is there! Although there are many young dogs that need a good home, there are also older ones like Maddy who deserve a second chance in life.
Maddy has given us so much love and happiness, I would not change her for the world.
Keep up the good work, thank-you for allowing us to foster such a wonderful dog.
Kindest regards
Catherine Jordan, Sam Webster and Maddy!

Bella
Hi,
Just thought I would drop you a quick email (and photo) to let you know how Bella is getting along.
We adopted Bella (or Betty Bo as she was called then!) from HAWT in March 2009. We wanted a companion for our Labrador, Jasper, after he sadly lost his buddy of ten years just after Christmas. We were all very sad but knew we could give a really good home to another deserving doggie, and we came across Bella whilst at the centre one day. We were instantly smitten and knew she was the one! She was very nervous when we first brought her home and lacking in confidence, but after much love, care and attention she is now a happy and confident little girl, who can also be a little mischievous at times!!! She has become a much loved member of the family.
Please keep up the excellent work.
Rebekah & Paul
